The People’s Credit and Finance Corporation (PCFC) was established by virtue of Memorandum Order 261 & Administrative Order No. 148. Republic Act 8425 of 1998 or the Social Reform and Poverty Alleviation Act further strengthened the role of PCFC as the lead government entity specifically tasked to mobilize resources for microfinance services for the exclusive use of the poor.

Following its mandate to provide the poor access to credit and other microfinance services to uplift their economic status, PCFC wholesales short, medium & long term investment loans to accredited Microfinance Institutions (MFIs). These are Rural or Cooperative Banks, Thrift Banks, Non- Government Organizations (NGOs) and Cooperatives that implement credit assistance programs using any proven microfinance lending methodology to finance livelihood projects that can augment the income of targeted poor clients

In line with PCFC’s continuing effort to step up advocacy on microfinance, PCFC President & CEO Edgar V. Generoso spoke before a group of entrepreneurs during the well-attended 17th Annual Caraga Business Conference held last August 3-4, 2011 at the Inland Resort in Butuan City.

As one of the major sponsors of the event, PCFC was provided with a booth where PCFC representatives conducted information campaign on the benefits of microfinance as a tool in the government’s anti poverty alleviation program.

The regional event gathered together several key personalities coming from both public and private sectors and stakeholders from across society (business, consumers, policy makers and financial institutions) with the purpose of highlighting the economic potential of the region and curbing its rising poverty incidence.

Mr. Generoso articulated PCFC’s strong commitment to the region as manifested by its financial assistance released to the different microfinance institutions (MFI) amounting to P 1.3 billion benefitting more than 171,000 poor households across Caraga region. Likewise, he vowed to intensify PCFC’s partnership with the MFIs in the region for the coming years by providing additional livelihood funds and conducting relevant trainings and other capability-building activities geared to cultivate a robust environment for microfinance.

Mr. Generoso with BSP Governor Amando M. Tetangco, Jr. at the sidelines of the conferenceAlso, he stressed the enormous contribution of the participants to the development of the region as shown by their untiring dedication for economic advancement and social development and their significant role in employment creation, economic empowerment and microfinance promotion towards the realization of the conference’s theme ‘Pushing Caraga Forward’.
